EMERYVILLE, Calif. —
A wanted parolee fleeing the scene of an early morning burglary Wednesday was captured after he crashed into an Emeryville police car, authorities said.
Emeryville Police PIO Brian Head said the incident began when an officer on routine patrol was slammed into by the parolee at the intersection of Park Ave. and San Pablo.
“At the time, he (the officer) did not know a burglary alarm was going off (near the crash scene),” Head said.
The parolee then attempted to speed away, but crashed into some decorative rocks in a Bank of America parking lot.
His car was disabled by that crash, Head said, so the suspect fled into the neighborhood, climbing onto the roof of a home and leaping onto a school roof where he was apprehended.
The parolee is believed to have burglarized the Lux Appraisers and Estate Services at 1501 Park Ave.
Head said a Lux employee had identified stolen property from the company inside the parolee’s car.
Head said the officer was not injured in the crash.
