Breaking: Ally Medina Resigns

 Breaking:

Councilwoman Ally Medina Resigns

Tonight, Emeryville City Council member Ally Medina resigned from office effective immediately.  Citing financial reasons and her desire to move out of town, Ms Medina made the announcement at the council comment section of tonight's regularly scheduled meeting.  Her colleagues expressed surprise at the announcement but an agendidized item on council travel authorization tonight notably left her name out, which would indicate she had notified the City Clerk of her impending departure at least three days ago.

Ms Medina made news at a special City Council meeting the Monday night before last when she attacked her new colleague Kalimah Priforce, overturning a general culture of collegiality that has marked the City Council for years.

It was not revealed how a replacement would be selected but it is presumed a taxpayer funded special election would need to be done or an appointment directed by the Mayor and decided by the City Council majority.

  1. The news of Medina’s departure is not a surprise given her involvement in crypto. Hopefully we can now put pressure on the city for Emeryville Code of Ethics.

  2. The cost to rent a place here in Emeryville is too high. I imagine that has a lot to do with her decision. She has served the city well. It is not an easy job, and public servants put up with a lot of abuse.

    1. The cost to rent here is too high ('the rent is too damn high'), true, but abuse? Ms Medina has certainly laid out abuse to citizens who have the temerity to criticize her job performance (called punching down). Where is the abuse she has to 'put up with'? I'm not seeing it. I hope you don't mean to suggest that citizens that are critical of her public policies constitutes 'abuse'. Because that's the way it's supposed to work. We are supposed to hold the elected officials accountable and they are actually paid to take citizen displeasure aired publicly. Don't feel too sorry for her...it all comes with the territory, except her abusing us, the citizens, from her lofty dais.

    2. You should run for City Council, Brian. You would win, for sure. And you know how to take abuse from others.

  3. It is the height of irresponsibility for her to not have announced her retirement before the election so we could save the money it will take to run a special election. Unless the whole thing is false and she waited to let Bauters appoint a replacement to his liking. Either way has a stink on it.

  4. When she reversed herself twice on the Sherwin Williams trees is when she lost me. She first voted to let the developer cut all the street trees, then she apologized for that vote after the rest of the council voted to save the trees and then later she voted to cut them all down again. She just was playing for the cameras when she apologized. I hope she does better where ever it is she is going.

    1. Yes, that is exactly what happened, Tattler reader. Many people expressed their opinion that she is a phony after that impolitic move.
