How Can She Be "Re-Elected" when Sukhdeep Kaur Was Not Elected In The First Place?
It's all over her campaign website. Council member Sukhdeep Kaur wants Emeryville voters to "re-elect" her. But how can we re-elect her when she never won an election in the first place? Council member Kaur just made that up. Perhaps it makes her seem more than what she is. Maybe that's why she is telling us this fib.
We'll never know why she is spreading this disinformation because Council member Kaur doesn't believe in answering questions from her constituents. She likes the perks of being an elected official but she doesn't like the accountability part. That's a thing now in Emeryville. Starting with John Bauters and now Courtney Welch and Sukhdeep too. They're not accountable to the people. Council member Kaur likes to imagine that she was elected by the people of Emeryville but she doesn't want to be accountable to the people of Emeryville.
Sukhdeep Kaur is running for election to the City Council, not re-election. For the record, the actual fact is Ms Kaur was appointed to the Emeryville City Council in February 2023 by then Mayor Bauters. She replaced Ally Medina who quit her position in December 2022 before her term was finished. Sukhdeep Kaur did run for election to the City Council in November 2022 and SHE LOST. Ms Kaur came in fourth out of five candidates running for two seats.

You would think a lawyer would be able to tell the truth since that is the ethical standards they agreed to, right? Suhkdeep replaced the Crypto Queen Medina who fled the state, maybe the country? Emeryville needs to dig deep to put forth candidates that uphold the basic standard of honesty.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to imagine this was a simple mistake. But it's also hard to imagine she thought she could get away with it with the Tattler on the prowl. So it's really weird. Why don't you reach out to her through a friend of hers?
ReplyDeleteMs Kaur and Mayor Courtney Welch are both protégés of Councilman Bauters and Bauters is the originator of the new culture infecting the Council of not being accountable to the people. It's all about protecting the brand and controlling the narrative at all times. Councilwoman Kaur wants to protect her brand and she is fully committed to not answering her constituents' questions (unless the public softball question enhances her brand).
DeleteI'm remembering the old days when Mayor Davis and the rest of them could be counted on to return calls and emails from even the biggest political enemies like the press. Accountability used to be considered something that came with the job of a politician in Emeryville. Now it's only Council members Priforce and Mourra holding the line for accountability to the people.
The Fair Political Practices Commission ("FPPC") confirmed yesterday morning (9/9/2024) that the campaign is in compliance with FPPC rules by using the term “re-elect” in political advertisements and campaign logo.
ReplyDeleteThe FPPC may have ruled that 're-elect' is synonymous with 'elect', but many people perceive a distinction. Sukhdeep Kaur also recognizes this difference, which is why she is choosing to use the term 're-elect' instead of 'elect'. This choice enhances her election campaign by emphasizing her as the people's choice.
