All The Sherwin Williams Trees Killed Today
The chainsaws started up this morning at 7:00 and by 2:00 they were just a bunch of stumps. Photos of Mayor Martinez and Councilwoman Medina were nailed on the top of each stump.
It is a travesty that any living thing is killed regardless of our plans. This same mentality pervades the entire human world and it is the reason why the living world around us is dying. We value the assertion of our "vision" over the value of the living. Such arrogance and domination of the living planet will, soon enough, leave us with nothing to cherish. We have become a culture without consequences for our actions and one day we will wonder why the air, the water, and the soil, are being poisoned and why we have no future... We still do not understand that trees have a vital and profound intelligence that we all can learn from, yet, we objectify them as "things" to buy, sell, and destroy. Nature is our teacher and we are destroying the very intelligence that could save our lives and our future. So be it... We are the purveyors of inconceivable barbarity and, every day, life is taken with no remorse. And we have taken the lives of those trees with no conscience or empathy.
Great story, great cause. But why put the pictures of two women on tree stumps like a psychopath?!?! No matter what they voted for. Come on Tattler readers, that's creepy isn't it? And borderline dangerous to those women.
Because it makes you look like a psycho who goes around town posting pictures of women who have done you wrong. From your articles, we know who they are and what they've done, and when the time comes to vote them out we'll look at their NAMES on the ballot and act accordingly. It is completely unnecessary what you did. What was the point of doing that? Tell me this, did you run this idea by your wife, or your daughter, or your sister, or your girlfriend, or your female colleague, or anybody? Did you bother asking any another woman, "hey, I'm thinking of putting up these pictures around town of these women who need to pay for what they did?" You're acting like these women denied you a date and you're getting your revenge. Do I really have to explain this? Are you really this tone-deaf? I'm not denying that they voted for it and need to own up to it, but your tactics are frightening and insane.
These two Council members didn’t do me wrong. They did everyone wrong. Not that it should needed, but there’s a Tattler analysis piece on this coming you might be interested in. Maybe not.
The Tattler doesn’t run stories past anybody other than our copy editor. NO politician, including Council members, will get a pass here. ALL council members, even women Council members will be held to account when it come to bad public policy being forwarded.
Passers by, who don’t read the Tattler, will know who’s responsible for our street trees being killed and I will let them know using any legal means I deem appropriate. Particularly egregious public policy, shamelessly done in private corporate interest as it was in this case, can and sometimes will be shown for what it is; manifested visually, because that can more closely express the travesty of dreadful public policy. Here’s one of the reasons we have art. To other readers, I apologize for this descent into such prima facie prose.
You are free to make this a gender issue of course. The public commons are always a contested space and some would seek to limit full public participation in the commons for profit or ideological reasons. So what you ask is to be expected and not really a problem, coming from a small number of people (one?). The problem comes when large sectors, driven by ideology (or profit), seek control of the commons. That’s what we have now in Washington DC politics.
Here at the Tattler, we always have and always will advocate for the full public commons, even to expand them. All people are welcome in the commons. There are after all, common.
To Anon at 7:40 AM, one last thing you should know: Here at the Tattler, we punch up. And we don’t pull punches for anybody. If you want Emeryville news where they punch down and where they pull their punches, may I recommend the E’Ville Eye? Emeryville business women are treated with deference over Emeryville residents at that site. You may like it better than the Tattler where women Council members sometimes get taken down.
I’m not an artist? I did not know that. If you don’t like bullshit stunts (like it sounds you don’t) and if you think women politicians must not be held to account (like is very clear from your witty ripostes), then you should go to the E’Ville Eye. More bullshit stunts are coming at the Tattler and more holding women politicians to account. It’s gunna get really ugly around here and people with delicate constitutions like yours may not be comfortable. Really, head over there…you’ll probably like it. You’ll hear nothing by way of criticism of the local government except when they work towards equity and social justice. That sounds more like your cup of tea. Off you go then.
The speed bumps were placed by the Council. I advocated for Level 5 diverters. Now that the Sherwin Williams project is almost complete with it's 2000 extra vehicle trips per day on Horton Street, the speed bumps will certainly not be enough to lower the vehicle trips per day to less than 3000 as is required so they have been not up to the task. Full diverters is the only mechanism that will deliver the bike boulevards we seek. But developers don't want them so the Council (with the exception of Council member Bauters) hasn't done them.

ReplyDeleteThese two Council members voted for it and now they own it. Explain the danger please.

DeleteMan, you are one gross individual, Brian Donahue. And completely insane. Good luck in that huge head of yours.
ReplyDeleteoh, and good job comparing your bullshit stunt to art. It's not art what you did. Your brother is the artist, not you.

Your picture should be pasted on all the Brian Donahue Memorial Speedbumps along Horton.
