Oakland Police Respond to Emeryville Police Shooting

Press release from the Oakland Police Department:

Today, February 3, 2015, at 12:35 PM, the Emeryville Police Department Dispatch Center received a call from a business in the 3800 block of Hollis Streetabout a combative theft suspect who was armed with a gun. Two uniformed Emeryville Police officers driving separate, fully marked patrol vehicles arrived on scene and were advised that the suspect had fled on foot. The investigation led the officers to the 3400 block of Hollis Streetwhere they located the suspect who was still armed with the gun. Officers discharged their service weapons and the suspect was struck. Medical aid was provided on scene however the suspect was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. A firearm was recovered from the scene. 

There were no officers injured. 

Although this incident originated in Emeryville, the shooting occurred in the City of Oakland. 

The investigation remains active. Investigators and Crime Scene Technicians are still processing the scene. 

Consistent with Departmental policy, this officer involved shooting must be investigated by the Oakland Police Department’s Homicide Section. An independent and concurrent investigation is also being conducted by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office and the Emeryville Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit.

Information is still preliminary at this time as multiple investigations continue. 

The Oakland Police Department is committed to transparency, but also to a full and complete investigative process that requires information be limited in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation. For this reason, only those preliminary details that do not compromise the investigation will be released. Additional information will be released as soon as practical.
