Anti-Palestinian Connection Found in Emeryville Democratic Party Delegate Race

Specter of Anti-Palestinian Politics in Emeryville ADEM Race

Breaking News

The Tattler has found an anti-Palestinian, Gaza genocide denying funding and influence connection in the local ‘ADEM’ Democratic Party delegate race reported this week.  Four Emeryville residents are running in two posing slates as the Tattler reported.  One of the two slates, called the ‘Housing and Climate Progressive Democratic Slate’, is paid by ‘California Jobs and Justice’, a Sacramento lobbying entity that itself is funded by the ‘Democratic Majority for Israel’ a Washington based lobbying organization that is Gaza genocide denying and anti-Palestinian.  Emeryville residents Sam Gould and Regina Chagolla are both part of that slate.

The other slate in the ADEM race is the ‘People’s Slate’ and is the more progressive slate of the two, despite the word ‘progressive’ in the Housing and Climate Slate title.  Emeryville residents Kalimah Priforce and Sarah Perez are among the People’s Slate members.  Mr Priforce is an Emeryville City Council member and a current ADEM delegate for the 18th District.  Regina Chagolla is an Emeryville school board member.

The 18th Assembly District Democratic Party delegates are charged with setting the Alameda County Democratic Party agenda and so it has been considered a powerful position and one that reflects East Bay Democratic Party values.  The anti-Palestinian connection has not been reported openly by the Housing and Climate Slate, probably because that is not a popular position for East Bay Democrats.

Democrats are urged to vote online by January 31st at ademelections.com

That tells you what you need to know.

The top contributors are anti-Palestinian and Gaza genocide deniers.

  1. Could you please provide the evidence that "the ‘Housing and Climate Progressive Democratic Slate’ is paid by ‘California Jobs and Justice’, a Sacramento lobbying entity that itself is funded by the ‘Democratic Majority for Israel’? I'm trying to understand the "anti-Palestinian connection" in the Emeryville Democratic Party Delegate race.

I have been unable to find any evidence to support this claim - could you please share your sources? I'd like to connect the dots myself, rather than simply taking your word for this. Thank you!

    1. OK, I’ll spell it out for you because you seem very nice. RE: skepticism- in 2025, it’s very important for citizens to be skeptical and increasingly more so over the next few years in America. Good for you for being skeptical. You’re showing us you have a journalist’s heart and intuition.

To your point: First, we showed that the all-boxes-checking mouthful ‘Housing and Climate Progressive Democratic Slate’ is funded by ‘California Jobs and Justice’ by showing a screenshot their own posted information that is required disclosure by California law (the first image). Then we posted a screenshot of the California Jobs and Justice page that is required by California law to be publicly disclosed that shows their contributors that include the lobbying entity known as the ‘Democratic Majority for Israel’ as their biggest. After that we rely on the wall to wall national reporting showing that pro-Israel groups are just that: pro-Israel and therefore less appreciative of Palestinian concerns.

    2. Thank you, Brian! I appreciate your help understanding this. To further help me, you please provide the sources showing that “Democratic Majority for Israel” is “anti-Palestinian, genocide-denying”? I spent some time searching their website and the internet and couldn’t find anything to specifically support this claim. I don’t think pro- Israel = anti-Palestinian, just as I don’t think criticism of Israel = antisemitism, as these statements paint with overly broad strokes. Again, I am hoping to see actual evidence or sources for this claim, not just your perception. Thanks again for your investigation!

    3. Go to the website of Democratic Majority for Israel. Everywhere there you can see the primary function of the organization is to support the State of Israel and to get the Democratic Party to support the State of Israel. What does the State of Israel say about the genocide it has committed against Palestinians in Gaza? The State of Israel denies it and so therefore does Democratic Majority for Israel. The State of Israel BTW is one of the very few states on Earth (the US too) that denies the genocide in Gaza.

These two politician wannabes in Emeryville, Sam Gould and Regina Chagolla both have signed on to this genocide denying organization. They are free to deny the genocide of course. But the people of Emeryville and the region have a right to know this about them. This extreme position of theirs does not represent most people in the East Bay Area.

  2. Please do not assume that someone (or organization) that is pro Israel is necessarily "less appreciative of Palestinian concerns". There are many people of both groups that want cooperation, peace, and freedom from extremist religions. Let us all support that. Also, let us support providing justice towards the native peoples' of this "American" land.

    1. Fro an organization to be pro-Israel by definition means they are less appreciative of Palestinian concerns. It's a prima facie truth. To single out Israel for appreciation means it comes at the expense of Palestinians, otherwise they would not be pro-Israel, rather they would be pro--Palestinian AND pro-Israel. And that means nothing...no reason to exist. There are organizations that support both like Doctors Without Borders or the Red Cross or Amnesty International but those groups are not "pro-Israel". Democratic Majority for Israel has shown itself to be anti-Palestinian and that's all that needs to be known to report about this Housing and Climate Slate in our midsts. People should know about the connection and because this ADEM slate will not tell us about it, journalism is needed.

    2. Criticism of Israel does not necessarily mean anti-semetic, and "Pro-Israel" does not necessarily mean "anti-Palestinian". There are political causes I am "less appreciative" of but I certainly do not actively oppose them - big difference. This nuance is important when making generalizations, as you appear to be doing in your article. I just searched the Democratic Majority for Israel website and the internet in general - I cannot find any specific evidence to support your claim that Democratic Majority for Israel is "genocide-denying" - could you please provide your sources or citations for this claim, not simply your interpretation of other sources' opinions? Thank you! Portraying your opinion as "breaking news" in absence of evidence to support your claims is not good journalism, Brian.
